Keld is where the Coast to Coast crosses the Pennine Way, a tiny huddle of grey stone at the very head of Swaledale. Waterfalls ring the place — Kisdon Force, East Gill Force and Catrake Force are all within a short walk down to the young Swale. It’s a walkers’ hamlet through and through, with a chapel and a small institute. Muker and Thwaite lie down the dale.
