The largest parish church in Somerset, and often taken for the cathedral a few streets away — St Cuthbert’s stands on the far side of Wells from Wells Cathedral. Its 15th-century west tower is among the tallest in the county, above a nave with a painted angel roof. Open to visitors, in the middle of England’s smallest city; the nearest station is Castle Cary, about 15km south-east.
