A motte-and-bailey castle once stood here — today it survives as earthworks in Hertfordshire. The Albion Guide charts eleven motte-and-bailey castles in the county; this is one of them. The surrounding countryside is part of the Chilterns National Landscape. The nearest railway station, Berkhamsted, is under a kilometre away.
