Tall enough to see across the fen, Maud Foster rises seven storeys beside its namesake drain in Boston, a five-sailed mill built in 1819 by the Hull millwrights Norman and Smithson. It is one of the largest working windmills in Britain, and on open days you can climb all seven floors; the shop sells its own stoneground flour. Boston station is a little over a kilometre away.
