Boston’s St Botolph is one of the largest parish churches in England, and its tower — the Stump — reaches 272ft, the tallest of any parish-church tower in the country. An octagonal lantern crowns it, once lit as a beacon for travellers across the fens and the Wash. You can climb the 209 steps to the top for a huge flat-country view. Boston station is a few minutes’ walk to the west.
