Substantial ruinsruined, but plenty survives above ground
Cistercian monks came from Rievaulx in 1143 to settle Revesby, and Aelred — later Rievaulx’s own abbot, and a saint — ran the place for four years before going back. Nothing of it stands. Grassed banks in the parkland mark out the church and cloister, ringed by fishponds and moat ditches, and geophysics has picked up the gatehouse under the turf. The Victorian house carrying the name was built by William Burn in the 1840s. All of it is private, with no public access, so treat this as one for the map. Bolingbroke Castle is the ruin to visit instead, 6km north-east.
