Woodhall Spa grew up as an Edwardian resort among the pines when a mineral spring was struck here, and it still has an unhurried, wooded feel. In the Second World War the 617 “Dam Busters” Squadron was based nearby, and the village keeps their memorial. Its great curiosity is the Kinema in the Woods, a cinema open since 1922 and the last in Britain still using back-projection. There’s championship golf on the edge of the village too.
