Herringfleet is the last full-size marsh drainage mill of its kind left working in the country — a black-tarred smock mill with cloth-covered common sails and a tailpole to turn it into the wind. Built around 1830 to pump water off the Waveney levels, it’s kept in order and set turning on demonstration days. It sits out on the grazing marshes; Haddiscoe station is about 1km to the north-west.
