Somerset’s last windmill with a complete set of working machinery, this stone tower mill on a rise near Chapel Allerton was built in the 1760s and restored in 1967. Cap and sails still stand, a landmark above the Levels, with Cheddar and its gorge a short drive east. Public openings have been limited in recent years, so check before making a special trip. Highbridge & Burnham-on-Sea is the nearest station, about 10km west.
