King John’s Hunting Lodge isn’t a lodge at all: it’s a jettied timber merchant’s house of around 1500, and it frames one side of Axbridge’s square. The compact old town sits on the edge of the Levels below the Mendips, with a medieval church across the marketplace. Worle station is about 10km to the north-west.
