Sgwd Gwladys, also called the Lady Falls, is a waterfall on the Afon Pyrddin, a short walk up the valley from Pontneddfechan at the southern edge of Bannau Brycheiniog, the Brecon Beacons. Sgwd is Welsh for waterfall, and the fall takes its name from Gwladys, said to be a daughter of the local chieftain Brychan. The water drops in a single clean curtain into a broad, shallow pool, and there’s a rock shelf behind the fall you can step onto to look out through the spray. The path from the village follows the river past a string of other falls, so it’s easy to link several together in one walk. It gets busy on warm weekends, and the rocks by the water are slippery.
