Places to explore in Neath Port TalbotWales · South West Wales
The Vale of Neath climbs from the coast into waterfall country, where rivers pour off the sandstone in a run of cascades — Sgwd Gwladys and Melincourt Falls among them — and falling water once powered the tinplate works at Aberdulais Falls. Cistercian monks farmed the lowland from Neath Abbey and Margam Abbey, whose ruins still stand. On the coast, steelmaking shaped Port Talbot, and the long strand of Aberavon Beach runs beside the works.
