Pontrhydyfen, in the Afan valley, was the birthplace of the actor Richard Burton in 1925. Two great crossings hold the village together: the four-arched Bont Fawr aqueduct of 1827, and a later nine-arched railway viaduct of 1898, both striding high over the river. Cycle and walking trails follow the old railway lines up the valley. Baglan station is about 5km down towards the coast.
