Kenfig is a dune system and shallow freshwater pool covering the site of a medieval town that blowing sand overwhelmed in the Middle Ages. Kenfig Pool is the largest natural lake in Glamorgan, and the dunes are known for orchids — including the rare fen orchid — with wildfowl on the water in winter. There’s a car park off the Pyle road and open access on foot; Pyle station is about three kilometres east.
