Trefriw sits above the Conwy on the wooded lower slopes of the Carneddau. Its woollen mill still weaves by water power, and just up the hill the Victorian spa house draws on a chalybeate — iron-rich — well, said to have been known since Roman times. North Llanrwst station is a couple of kilometres away across the valley.
