Pen Llithrig y Wrach reaches 799m at the eastern end of the Carneddau, the big rounded hills in the north of Eryri. The name translates roughly as the witch’s slippery hill, and the going underfoot is often wet and peaty rather than rocky. The hill stands above the long reservoir of Llyn Cowlyd, and many walkers take it together with its neighbour Pen yr Helgi Du on a round from the A5. This is a quiet corner compared with the Snowdon crowds, so decent navigation helps when the cloud comes down.
