Alfred, Lord Tennyson was born at Somersby in 1809, where his father was rector, and grew up among these quiet folds of the southern Wolds. The hamlet is tiny — a lane, a brook and a small church — and the rectory where he was raised still stands, though it’s a private house. The scenery that fed his early verse is easily walked from here, with Tetford and Bag Enderby close by on the Tennyson trail.
