The spire of St James’ rises to 295ft, the tallest on any medieval parish church in England and a marker for miles across the Wolds and marsh. It went up between 1501 and 1515, the crowning flourish on a Perpendicular wool church funded by Louth’s trade in the good years. The interior is light and lofty to match. Open to visitors, at the top of the market town’s streets.
