Come to Donna Nook in November and December, when more than two thousand grey seal pups are born along this stretch of the Lincolnshire coast. The cows haul out to give birth right beside the dunes, and a fenced path lets you watch the white-coated pups from a few feet away without disturbing them. The reserve is on an active MOD bombing range but the seal area stays open through the pupping season; it can get very busy at weekends, so an early or midweek visit is easier. The rest of the year it’s a quiet run of dunes and saltmarsh.
