Alford’s five-sailed windmill still turns above the town, a Grade I mill built in 1837 by the local millwright Sam Oxley and restored to working order in the 1950s — see Alford windmill for the mill itself. The town also keeps a thatched manor house of 1611, reckoned the largest in England, and runs a craft market on Fridays.
