Newburgh sits at the mouth of the Ythan, where a big system of dunes runs north into the Sands of Forvie reserve. Seals often haul out in numbers on the sandbar across the river, and Forvie holds one of the world’s largest eider duck colonies. It’s a fine spot for a bracing beach walk. The nearest railway is Dyce, a good way south, so most people come by car.
