A wide curve of sand backed by dunes, Cruden Bay looks north to the gaunt ruins of Slains Castle on the headland — the clifftop pile said to have fired Bram Stoker’s imagination for Dracula. It’s a fine walking beach, with the village and a footbridge over the Water of Cruden at the southern end. The Bullers of Buchan are a short way up the coast.
