The Bullers of Buchan is a collapsed sea cave — a near-circular chasm about 30m deep that the sea pours into through a natural arch. In a storm the water churns and boils inside, which may be where the name comes from (the French bouillir, to boil). Puffins, kittiwakes and other seabirds crowd the surrounding cliffs in summer. A path runs right round the rim, but the cliffs are unfenced and sheer, so watch your footing. It’s just up the coast from Cruden Bay Beach.
