Kingston stands on a Purbeck hilltop looking north over Corfe Castle and the ridge beyond. Its landmark is the grand Victorian church of St James, built of local stone for the Earl of Eldon in the 1870s and known for the scale and quality of its work. Footpaths drop from the village down to the cliffs at Houns-tout and Chapman’s Pool.
