Ely is a small cathedral city on a low island above the Fens, the cathedral — the Ship of the Fens — visible for miles across flat country. Below it are riverside walks along the Ouse, a market, and Oliver Cromwell’s House, where he lived in the 1630s; the station is a short walk south of the centre. The Cutter Inn sits right on the water.
