Substantial ruinsruined, but plenty survives above ground
Three orders held this site in turn: Benedictine monks from 1159, the Knights Templar until the crown seized their lands in 1308, then Franciscan nuns who stayed until the Dissolution. One stone building survives, and the interest is in reading the jumble of Norman arches, blocked doorways and rearranged windows in its walls, plus the tiled floor of the nuns’ refectory. English Heritage owns Denny Abbey; the Farmland Museum beside it runs the visit, with one ticket covering both. Open Thursday to Sunday in the season, closed over winter, so check before setting off. Waterbeach station is about 4km south.
