D.H. Lawrence was born in 1885 at 8a Victoria Street in Eastwood, then a coal-mining town on the Erewash. The terraced house is now the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum, laid out as a miner’s cottage of the period, and the country around it fed much of his writing. Langley Mill station lies under 2km to the west.
