Papplewick Hall is a Georgian house built in the 1780s for Frederick Montagu, with a landscape park running down to the River Leen. It’s still a private family home, so the house and garden only open on a handful of days a year — usually for the National Garden Scheme, with group visits possible by arrangement. Worth timing a trip around one of those openings rather than turning up on spec. Newstead station is about 2.4km away.
