The Hutt stands on the old Nottingham road at Ravenshead, opposite the gates of Newstead Abbey in what was once Sherwood Forest. The site held a royal lodge for the foresters who guarded the King’s deer, and by the 17th century it had become a coaching inn where travellers gathered before crossing the notorious Thieves Wood. Low beams and exposed stone inside. Newstead station is about 4km to the south-west.
