Eaglesham is a planned village laid out from 1769 by Alexander, 10th Earl of Eglinton, and it still keeps the shape he gave it: two rows of houses facing each other across the Orry, a wedge of common green split by the Eaglesham Burn. It’s a conservation village now, so the Georgian frontages have stayed put, and the parish church of 1790 stands at the top of the green. Thorntonhall station is about 3.5km to the north-east.
