South of Glasgow the ground rises quickly from prosperous suburbs to open moor. Much of that high, peaty plateau is now covered by Whitelee Windfarm, the largest onshore wind farm in the United Kingdom, laced with trails for walkers and cyclists. Below it, the planned weavers' village of Eaglesham keeps its wide green and radiating streets from the 18th century. Closer to the city, the waterfalls, boating pond and glasshouse of Rouken Glen Park draw families out from the suburbs. Small farms and reservoirs fill the country in between.
