Dunfermline was the de facto capital of Scotland for centuries, and Robert the Bruce lies buried in its abbey. The industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie was born here in a weaver’s cottage in 1835, and in 1903 gave the town the wooded Pittencrieff Park. The abbey, ruined palace and park sit close together, a short walk uphill from Dunfermline Town station.
