Dolgellau is a compact market town built of dark local stone, its narrow streets and small squares little altered, under the bulk of Cadair Idris. It’s the main base for walkers heading up the mountain, and the start of gentler valley routes like the Precipice Walk. The Cross Foxes inn stands a few miles out on the Machynlleth road.
