Machynlleth was where Owain Glyndŵr held his parliament in 1404, and the town still trades on that history at the head of the Dyfi Biosphere. It’s a walkable place of independent shops, with modern art at Y Tabernacl / MOMA Wales in a converted chapel and the Centre for Alternative Technology a few miles up the valley. Trains stop in the town.
