Cormorants nest on Craig yr Aderyn — Bird Rock — even though it stands a couple of miles inland up the Dysynni valley: the largest inland breeding colony of the birds in Wales, a leftover from when the sea reached the foot of the crag. A path climbs the hill, which also carries the remains of an Iron Age hillfort. Tywyn is the nearest town, a few miles down the valley.
