Barmouth spreads along the sands at the mouth of the Mawddach, its houses climbing the rock behind the front. The Victorian railway viaduct crosses the estuary on timber piles, with a walkway alongside for the view up to the mountains. Two miles of beach run north from the harbour, and the station is in the middle of town.
