The broadcaster and wartime BBC correspondent Wynford Vaughan-Thomas is remembered by a bronze figure of himself on the high mountain road between Machynlleth and Llanidloes, above Dylife. Set up as a toposcope and unveiled in 1990, he stands pointing north towards Snowdon across a huge sweep of the Cambrian Mountains. It’s right by the roadside at one of the great viewpoints in mid Wales, with room to pull in.
