Diggle sits at the very top of the Saddleworth valleys, right against the Pennine watershed, and it’s here that the Standedge Tunnel - the longest, deepest and highest canal tunnel in Britain - burrows away under the moors towards Yorkshire. The village is a good base for moorland and towpath walks. Greenfield station is about 4km to the south. Uppermill and Dobcross lie just down the valley.
