Walkers coming off the Pennine moors have long made for the Cross Keys, an old stone inn on the edge above Uppermill. Open fires, cask ale and a genuine hikers’ welcome, with Dove Stone Reservoir and the moors right on the doorstep. The brewing Church Inn is close by. Greenfield station is a little over 2km away.
