Brockenhurst is the New Forest’s main railway village, where ponies and cattle wander the streets and a shallow ford, the watersplash, crosses the road at Brookley Road. The churchyard at St Nicholas holds the graves of New Zealand and Indian soldiers treated at a First World War military hospital here. Trains stop right in the village, the station a few hundred metres from the centre.
