A deer sanctuary and tall-tree walk in the heart of the New Forest, with a viewing platform out over a lawn where fallow deer graze
Bolderwood is one of the New Forest’s set-piece stops, reached along a quiet ornamental drive lined with big conifers. A short walk from the car park leads to a raised deer-viewing platform looking over a grassy clearing where fallow deer often feed, best odds early or late in the day. There’s no guarantee — the deer are wild — but sightings are common, and the surrounding arboretum has some notably tall trees, including old Douglas firs. It’s free to visit, part of the wider New Forest, and the ancient Knightwood Oak is only about a mile and a half east. Blackwater Arboretum is close by too.
