Lyndhurst is the New Forest’s main town, home to the Verderers’ Court that still governs the forest’s commoners. Alice Liddell, the girl who inspired Alice in Wonderland, is buried under her married name Hargreaves in the churchyard of St Michael and All Angels. The New Forest Heritage Centre sits by the main car park. Ashurst New Forest station is about 5km to the north-east.
