For nearly a hundred years the East Devon village of Whimple ran on cider: Whiteways had its headquarters here from 1891, shipping bottled cyder around the world. The little heritage centre tells that story through photographs, tools and village memory, and it’s free to look round, opening Wednesdays and Saturdays through the summer season. Whimple station sits barely 400 metres away on the Exeter–Waterloo line, and Courtney’s still presses cider in the village.
