Bishop John de Grandisson rebuilt Ottery St Mary’s church from 1338 as a collegiate foundation, modelling it on his own Exeter Cathedral, down to the twin transept towers. One tower holds a medieval astronomical clock, among the oldest working clocks in the country, its dial still turning the sun and moon around an earth-centred sky. Usually open in daylight hours. Feniton station is about 4.5km north.
