There has been a working watermill at Otterton since Domesday, and the restored mill still grinds flour for the bakery and café beside it. The village is a long line of thatched cob cottages along the River Otter, between Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton, with a riverside path heading down towards the sea. Bicton Park botanical gardens are a short way north.
