The present Pewsey horse was cut in 1937 for the coronation of George VI, on a hill that had carried an earlier horse from the 1780s until it grew over. It is small and neatly kept, above the Vale of Pewsey. The larger Alton Barnes horse shows on the skyline to the north-west, across the North Wessex Downs.
