Marlborough’s high street is one of the widest in England, a long tiled and colonnaded run of shops that opens out for the twice-weekly market. It was rebuilt broad after a great fire in 1653. The town sits on the Kennet in the North Wessex Downs, with Marlborough College at its western end and the Marlborough White Horse cut on a slope by the school. Pewsey station is about 9km south.
