The Kyle Line is the railway from Inverness out to Kyle of Lochalsh, and one of the prettiest rides in Britain — the last stretch runs beside sea lochs with Skye ahead. It takes about two and a half hours, threading moor, glen and coast, and was completed through to Kyle in 1897. You step off almost at the Skye Bridge. A grand way to arrive without a car.
