Most people meet Kintail from the road along Loch Duich, looking up at the wall of peaks known as the Five Sisters. It is one of the classic Highland ridges, and it looks every bit as steep as it walks.

The area runs to 173 km². Sgurr Fhuaran is the highest of the Five Sisters, with Sgurr na Ciste Duibhe alongside it on the ridge and Creag nan Damh among the Munros across the glen. To the north, A’ Ghlas-bheinn sits by the approach to the Falls of Glomach, one of the highest waterfalls in the country.

This is genuine mountain country. The full ridge is a long day with steep drops on both sides and no easy escape once committed, so it wants settled weather and a bit of experience. In cloud or high wind it is best left for another day.
