Burrough Hill is an Iron Age hillfort on a spur of the High Leicestershire wolds, its double ramparts still clear on the ground and a wide view north over the Wreake valley. Excavations here have turned up a timber gateway and a hoard of decorated chariot fittings. It’s a country park now, managed by the county council and open access, above the village of Burrough on the Hill. Melton Mowbray station is around 8km to the north.
